4 Tips That Will Help You Get The Your Hot Yoga Class

The practice of hot yoga is unlike other yoga practices. Hot yoga is about performing yoga in a hot, sweaty environment. When you practice yoga in a really hot environment, the entire practice of yoga changes. Here are some tips that will help you improve your hot yoga craft.

Tip #1: Make Sure You Stay Well Hydrated

You need to make sure that you stay well hydrated when you are practicing hot yoga. You are going to want to drink some water before you go to your yoga class and bring some water with you. You may not drink that much during your session, but you need to be sure to drink lots of fluids afterward.

Although water is great, you want to make sure you are getting in some electrolyte as well. You can get electrolytes by drinking some coconut water or some sports drinks.

Tip #2: Use a Yoga Mat Towel

When you practice hot yoga, you are going to sweat a lot. That is one of the primary purposes of this style of yoga. When you get all sweaty, you can easily lose your grip on your yoga mat. Instead of using a regular yoga mat, you can use a yoga mat with a textured top layer that will provide you with a better grip when you are sweaty. If you can't find a textured yoga mat, you can also purchase a yoga towel, which just covers up your entire mat and keeps your mat dry while you are working out.

Tip #3: Protect Against the Sweat

Although you are going to be sweating a lot, you should not let the sweat be the focus of your workout. If you have long hair, pull it back in a bun or a ponytail for class. Don't put on makeup if you regularly wear makeup before class. Wear a headband if you sweat a lot on your face and bring a hand towel with you to wipe yourself down. Don't let your sweating distract you from your practice.

Tip #4: Dress Correctly

With hot yoga, what you wear matters. This is not the time to wear really baggy clothing or really thick leggings. For women, shorts or capris and a sports bra make a great outfit. For men, a pair of shorts and a lightweight tank-top or no top make a great outfit. You want to wear lightweight breathable fabric.

If you are ready to try some hot yoga, bring a towel for your mat or bring a textured mat. Remember to hydrate well before and after your class, and dress comfortably. Then, get into the experience and enjoy this unique practice!
